IAA and UNITAR-NYO Highlights the Importance of Animal Welfare Education in Sustainable Agriculture at World Conference

28 October 2024, Beijing, China — The International Academy for Arts and Cultural Studies (IAA) proudly participated in the World Conference on Animal Welfare in the Sustainable Agri-food Systems, held at the Beijing Jinhaihu International Convention and Exhibition Center. The conference, hosted by the China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation, brought together global experts and leaders to discuss the integration of animal welfare into sustainable agri-food systems.


Ambassador Marco A. Suazo, Head of Office at UNITAR-NYO, delivered the welcoming remarks, emphasizing the critical role of sustainable agri-food systems in global action. Ambassador Suazo highlighted that animal welfare is not just a moral imperative but an essential component of sustainable food systems. His remarks underscored the necessity for continued global cooperation and the sharing of best practices in this field.

Throughout the conference, Ambassador Suazo discussed multiple topics with industry leaders, including Xi Chunlin, President of CAPIAC; Jinsong Zeng, Vice President of the Charoen Pokphand Group; and Daniela Battaglia, Livestock Production Officer at FAO. He emphasized the critical importance of collaborative platforms like the Animal Welfare World Conference, highlighting their role in advancing global cooperation and the exchange of best practices. Ambassador Suazo stressed that such gatherings are essential for deepening collaborations and promoting sustainable practices within the industry. Additionally, Ambassador Suazo elaborated on the potential for expanding educational collaborations through training programs and other educational initiatives, aiming to enhance industry expertise and foster a deeper understanding of sustainable practices in agriculture.

Ambassador Suazo was accompanied by Dr. Amaj Rahimi Midani, President of Poseidon AI and a specialist in aquaculture. Dr. Midani delivered a compelling panel discussion on the role of advanced technologies in enhancing aquaculture practices that align with sustainable and ethical standards. His insights provided a valuable perspective on integrating technology to foster sustainable practices in this field.
